Kitchen Design Ideas

Seeking 1 or 2 fine kitchen cutlery sets? Then begin your research on the various knives you’ll need. Each knife in any of the different types of kitchen cutlery sets on the market has its own unique function. (As noted below, consider the knives first and aesthetics second, which shouldn't be a concern anyway even if you seek to match your set with your kitchen colors).

Here are the knives you must have:

The Cook’s Knife

You will use The Cook’s Knife, also known as the Chef’s Knife, for difficult jobs like dicing food. Its about, on average, 9 inches long. So that you can easily use it on your kitchen counter tops, it has a rounded shaped blade. Think of it as the “work horse” knife. But, unfortunately for the Chef’s knife, it is best known as the knife that Michael Myers used in the movie Halloween.

The Bread Knife

The Bread Knife has a thin, serrated blade. It averages 8 inches in length and, as you would expect, is used to cut bread (bet you didn’t know how “knife smart” you were, did you?).

The Paring Knife

The Paring Knife is only 3 inches long. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in use. You will find it an indispensable part of all kitchen cutlery sets as you use it for peeling and coring.

The Utility Knife

At around 6 inches, on average, in length, the Utility Knife is somewhat of the “step child”. It has no specialty but is often used for random tasks.

The Steak Knife

The Steak Knife is loved by all as it slices steak at meal time, quieting the hunger pangs of family members. It averages five inches in length.

The Cleaver

The Cleaver, which, to its chagrin, looks rather ominous, is actually a helpful tool to have in the kitchen. It’s a handy “knife” that is perfect for chopping and cutting bone (Tip: Never use The Cleaver directly on your kitchen counter tops - always use a cutting board!).

The Boning Knife

The Boning Knife, with its flexible blade, is ideal for removing bones from meat. At around six inches in length, the Boning Knife snakes its way in between the meat and the bone and literally “pops” out from the meat. While the Cleaver can cut through bone, the Boning Knife is a little more elegant – it “flips” the bone from the meat. (Tip: Unlike The Cleaver, you can remove bones, using the boning knife, directly on your kitchen countertops. It's more "gentle" in its work).

The Fillet Knife

If you’re a fish eater, then you absolutely can’t do without the Fillet Knife. It’s a larger version, coming in at ten inches in length, of the Boning Knife.

Aesthetics and Kitchen Colors

Of course, function is the most important part of your set. However, given the wide range of kitchen cutlery sets on the market, you can easily find one to match your kitchen colors.

Congratulations! You are now ready to choose among the great sets on the market!

Note: Look for comfortable knives and good materials in all kitchen cutlery sets
